We offer a mixture of online and in-person appointments!
Book an Online Writing Center Appointment
Online appointments take place over Zoom. After booking your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with a zoom link to use for your appointment.
Book an In-Person Writing Center Appointment
In-person appointments take place in the Tutoring and Writing Center (C2190).
At times, it may be necessary for us to replace in-person appointment with online appointments; you will be notified in advance of these changes.
Have questions? Need help scheduling an appointment? Email us or drop by the Tutoring Center (C2190) from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Thursday or 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Friday to speak with a staff member.
At the Writing Center, students' needs lead! When you visit the Writing Center, you can expect your tutor to ask what you'd like to get out of the tutoring session and then work alongside you to accomplish that goal and improve your writing.
We offer Normandale students free peer tutoring on your writing assignments for classes across Normandale, as well as your scholarship and application essays.
Writing Center tutors help with all parts of the writing process and many aspects of academic writing, including brainstorming, writing a thesis, analysis, organization of ideas and paragraphs, citation (MLA and APA), and sentence structure.
Amber: Hi! My name is Amber, and I am a student here at Normandale. I am also a Writing Center Tutor. Meaning I get the opportunity to become a better student by helping others navigate through their course material.
I am grateful for all of the conversations and brainstorming, the questions I am asked, and -of that- the questions I can't answer on my own. Tutoring is (and for lack of a better word) the evidence that we learn better together.
Berenice: I'm originally from Los Angeles and have enjoyed living in the Midwest for the last fifteen years. I'm a non-traditional student and started my journey into college at thirty-seven years old.
My passion is writing, and I look forward to helping others with theirs. For fun I swim, read, keep 200+ houseplants and go to stand-up comedy shows.
Christine: My name is Christine, my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I'm a creative writing major at Normandale. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me the opportunity to help fellow students further their academic success.
Clint: Hey there, my name is Clint. This is my second year at Normandale working towards a bachelor of science in nursing. Outside of school, I enjoy being physically active. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, skiing, running, yoga, and weightlifting.
Giani: My name is Giani, and I love helping others discover their unique capabilities and talents when it comes to learning and writing. I am currently a nursing major at Normandale, and I hope to learn more about myself and my peers as we work together and navigate our writing journey.
Harith: Hi! My name is Harith. I am studying animal science as well as medicine. I really enjoy using writing to talk about issues I think are important and aren't mentioned enough.
During my free time, I enjoy listening to music (mainly rock!), hanging out with friends, and spending time with my dog!
Lisa: I'm Lisa and am working toward a creative writing degree at Normandale. As a tutor, I can work together with you to understanding content and deepening study and writing skills you need for the best learning outcomes at school and beyond.
Tutoring gives me the opportunity to engage and communicate with others. It is a chance for me to learn and grow along with you. I have tutored Italian students in English and speak fluent Italian. I love traveling, bike riding and summertime.
Melissa: Hi, I'm Melissa. Nice to meet you! I'm planning to major in either biochemistry or neuroscience. When it comes to writing, I enjoy being able to articulate my ideas and interpret and analyze a diverse set of texts.
In my free time, I enjoy volunteering and advocating. Mostly, I volunteer at a non-profit medical organization, The Campus Cupboard, and a mentoring program that equips middle and high-schoolers with practical skills.
Tutor.com is an online tutoring service that is also available to registered Normandale students. Tutor.com services are limited to 15 hours per student, per school year, so we recommend using it as a backup option for when the Tutoring and Writing Centers aren't available. Tutor.com tutoring is available 24/7.
