Study Tools & Technologies

The Academic Support Centers can help you navigate Normandale’s academic norms and educational technologies. Our peer tutors are eager to work with you one-on-one to orient you to D2L and Normandale’s other campus technologies, help you understand your syllabi and instructors’ expectations, and discuss time management and study strategies. We can also connect you with the tools you need to reach your potential in class, like a calculator to borrow or, if you qualify, a free laptop.

ACADEMIC SKILLS FOR SUCCESS

Looking for assistance with school, but not for any specific course? Our Academic Skills for Success appointments are designed for just that. You can come to us with questions about:

  • Getting Organized: reviewing syllabuses and schedules, planning for the semester
  • Study Skills: how to study effectively and prepare for exams
  • Using Key Technologies: D2L, student email, Microsoft 365, printing
  • Accessing Course Materials: ordering textbooks, downloading programs, finding e-content
  • Reading Syllabi: grading policies, dates and deadlines, course delivery methods
  • College Expectations: independence and responsibility, active participation
  • Communicating with Faculty: office hours, email etiquette, when to reach out
  • Other Campus Resources: where to go for which purposes
  • And more!
Enow Simon Tanyi

“I appreciate what the Tutoring & Writing Center has done for my academic journey during the last semesters, giving me the motivation and direction to overcome the difficulties I find in my courses. Early in the semester, I like to review my syllabi with a tutor to ensure I know where to find my course materials and what is expected of me.”

Enow Simon Tanyi, Normandale Student

CALCULATOR LOANS

Need a calculator for an exam? Come borrow one for the day or for the week! We have basic, scientific, and graphing calculators available for loan.

Come to the center in C2190 to loan a calculator. Our front desk attendants will verify your eligibility by making sure that you are currently enrolled in a Normandale course that requires a calculator and that you do not have another calculator already loaned out. Once both requirements are confirmed, you can take the device and use it as needed. You must return it by the due date to avoid being charged the cost of the device.

FREE LAPTOP PROGRAM

Access to a computer is essential to academic success. Thanks to generous donors, Normandale is able to provide laptops at no cost to students who demonstrate a need.
