Peer Tutors provide one-on-one peer academic support to their fellow students. Students interested in this position must have completed the courses they wish to tutor with an A or a B.
Peer Tutors do not teach material to students, nor do they carry out students’ academic work for them. They undergo extensive training to help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills alongside specific study strategies for their coursework.
Each tutoring session is unique; Peer Tutors identify a student’s specific needs and then utilize appropriate tutoring strategies to help the student develop study skills, understand complex concepts, practice sample problems, and grow their academic confidence and independence.
Peer Writing Tutors work with Normandale students to improve their writing skills and assignments. Peer Writing Tutors must have completed ENGC 1101 with an A or a B.
Tutoring sessions are student-led and interactive, with tutors focusing on supporting students as they plan, draft, and revise their own writing. Peer Writing Tutors receive training to ensure that they center the students’ learning journey, ideas, and authentic voices while offering support navigating academic genres and conventions.

The PASS program is an academic assistance program that utilizes Peer-Assisted Study Sessions (PASS). PASS Leaders are students who have previously earned an A or B in the course they are assigned to. They attend all class lectures, act as model students, and host twice-weekly study sessions for the students in the course.
Study sessions provide an opportunity for students to compare notes, discuss course content, develop organizational tools, and prepare for exams. PASS Leaders guide students in the integration of course content and encourage productive collaboration with their peers.
