Here are five key things to keep your transfer plan on track:

Meet regularly with your advisor
Use the transfer planning tools and resources below
Sign up for Transferology, a free website that allows students to create an account and see how courses transfer between institutions
Connect with a Transfer Admissions counselor at the institution you're interested in attending
Apply for transfer admission. If you are transferring to MinnState institutions, they will pull your transcripts. If you are applying out of state/University of Minnesota/Private institutions then you’ll need to order your official transcripts here.

Transferring from Normandale to a Minnesota State University is designed to be seamless! The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum makes it easy to transfer liberal arts requirements, the transfer pathways allow for a smooth transition into major programs, and course equivalencies are all found in Transferology.

MnCAP

The Minnesota Cooperative Admissions Program (MnCAP) is a collaboration between the U of M - Twin Cities and seven community colleges to guarantee transfer admission to participating U of M majors when students meet specific conditions. The program is exclusively for transfer students, so Normandale students who are enrolled in PSEO are not eligible. Visit the MnCAP site for information about participating majors and requirements.

Explore your Options

Research online. Focus on schools that have your intended major, and be prepared with good questions to ask.
Talk to experts, including advisors and counselors, faculty in your intended major, and transfer admissions counselors at universities you are interested in.  
Review admission requirements, noting:  
- Grade point average (GPA) needed for admission, and average GPAs of students who are admitted.  
- Other criteria considered for admission, such as letters of recommendation, personal essay or portfolio.  
- Prerequisite or required courses and minimum grades needed When students are admitted - every semester, or only in fall?

Visit Campus

This is an important step in understanding if a college is right for you. The transfer admissions office will connect you to opportunities here to: 

Talk to students  
Visit with faculty or advisors in your area of interest  
Tour campus to see the classrooms, student union, support offices, health center, computer labs, bookstore and residence halls.

Apply for Transfer Admission

Make sure you know admissions deadlines.  
Send an official college transcript when you apply, and again when all your grades and any degrees are awarded at Normandale (and don't forget to apply for graduation!).  
If applying to an out-of-state school in the region, ask about reciprocity.

Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships

Complete the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) form at www.fafsa.ed.gov  
Work with your admissions counselor and financial aid office to apply for scholarships.

Apply for Housing if needed

Most four-year colleges and universities can help with on- and off-campus housing.  
Housing at some schools fills very early!
