With a theater production and design degree from Normandale, you’ll be ready to make your way into the exciting world of theater, and you’ll be prepared to pursue a BA or BFA in theater production and design at one of seven Minnesota State colleges.
It’s a fact: Normandale’s theater program is the premier two-year theatre program in Minnesota. Plus, we are one of a select few of fully accredited two-year theater programs offered in the country.
We have state-of-the-art facilities, innovative and affordable degree programs, highly qualified faculty and accessibility to one of the most vibrant arts communities in the nation.
Our alumni have gone on to some of the best schools around the state and abroad. And many are working professionals in the Twin Cities and other major markets including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Students will be highly mentored by faculty in a variety of settings, from one-on-one coaching to a workshop-based classroom environment. There are numerous hands-on opportunities to participate in the production season, too.
You’ll gain a solid foundation in all aspects of theater production and design. You’ll turn your fresh ideas on paper into real-world theatrical production and design practices.
You’ll get hands-on training in how to effectively:
We offer a Technical Theatre AFA, where you can prepare for a career as a theatre technician. Please verify, this was from one part of the theater program’s pages but I didn’t see it anywhere else. Thx!
In this hands-on program, you’ll build skills in scenic, costume and lighting technology as well as design and rendering. You will have opportunities to work both backstage and as a technician creating multiple fully produced productions.
Upon completion of the degree, you’ll be prepared to either begin working professionally or transfer into a BA or BFA theatre program for further training.
In addition, we offer a Theater Performance Transfer Pathway (AFA) program for actors and performers who desire to pursue their craft professionally.
