Normandale Community College will host events for Earth Week on four different days from Monday, April 20 to Thursday, April 23.
As part of the Richard Brown Colloquium Series, Normandale English instructors Mary Hammerbeck and Anna Meek, and Psychology instructor Andy Tix will host a session titled Lift Up Your Voices: Poems for Earth Day on Monday, April 20 at 2 p.m. in Room C 1020. At this session, they will share poems that celebrate the natural world. This will be the fifth in a series of seven Colloquium series talks during the spring semester.
There will be a Psychology of Sustainability talk on Wednesday, April 22 from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. at the Dale Lorenz Fine Arts Auditorium. The talk will explore topics such as climate anxiety and the psychology of sustainable behavior change with national experts from Macalester College and the University of St. Thomas. Sustainable food options will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Normandale Sustainable Committee. You can find out more by emailing andrew.tix@normandale.edu.
Normandale will also host a Community Tech Drive from on Tuesday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Partnership Link (located by Parking Lots 3 and 4 off Collegeview Road) and a campus community Earth Day Cleanup event from 2 to 4 p.m. (you can meet at the Zone Information Desk).
For the Community Tech Drive, Normandale is partnering with Minnesota Tech for Success to host a community Tech Drive focused on secure data destruction and responsible recycling. Donated devices will either by refurbished for Minnesota schools or recycled according to certified zero-landfill standards. All data-bearing equipment is handled with NAID-AAA-certified data destruction, ensuring your personal information remains completely secure.
On Wednesday, April 22, there will be an Earth Day Clothing Swap from 1-2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Hallway sponsored by Student Life and Basic Needs. The campus will also have an Earth Day Outdoor Celebrate at the Second Floor Courtyard on Thursday, April 23 from 2-4 p.m.
Normandale looks forward to hosting a week of inspiring, hands-on events that bring our community together to honor the planet. From uplifting nature poetry, to a campus cleanup, a clothing swap and a thought-provoking talk on the psychology of sustainability, each day offers a simple way to learn, connect, and make a positive impact.
