Normandale Students at 2025 Model UN Conference

Normandale students participate in Model UN Conference in New York

Normandale students from the Politics and Law Club participated in the National Model United Nations Conference (MNUM), a Model UN simulation for college and university students, in New York from April 6-11.

The Normandale student delegation, which was led by Politics and Law Club Faculty Advisor and Political Science Instructor Elizabeth Klages, included Alex Blanco, Josephine Morris, Taras Sarazhynskyy, Aditya Tulahalli, Hagi Galvan, James Davis, Zola Cain, Naima Farah, Ebenezer Woldu, Scooter Stoik, Gregor Tobias, Joaquin Alvarez and Cassandra Milano. They were joined by five students from Augsburg University to form a joint delegation 18-student delegation representing Finland.

The students served on nine committees, which included General Assembly First Committee, General Assembly Second Committee, General Assembly Third Committee, United Nations Environment Assembly, Human Rights Council, UN High Commissioner for Refugees,  Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons

Alex Blanco and Josephine Morris were named Outstanding Delegates in Committee – General Assembly Second Committee.

Normandale was one of three community colleges to participate (Community College of Aurora) and Johnson County Community college. There were 174 colleges and universities that were part of the conference. Approximately 2,800 students attended the conference from the U.S. and 18 different countries.

The students were able to attend NMUN due to funding from Student Life, as well as a generous contribution through the Normandale Foundation from the Kopp Foundation.
