Concurrent Enrollment

Take Normandale Classes at Your High School

When you sign up for a concurrent enrollment class at your high school, you are taking a Normandale Community College course. You become a Normandale student, earning high school and college credit at the same time.

Courses are taught by Normandale-approved high school teachers. Our instructors work with your teachers to ensure the courses are the same as you would take at Normandale. You’ll work with the same curriculum, assignments, and assessment methods as on-campus students.

Course tuition and associated materials are free. Credits earned through the program transfer to Normandale, as well as many other colleges and universities.

Minnesota public colleges and universities work together to make transferring between schools as easy as possible. To do this, we use a program called the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC).

What Are the Benefits?

Many students say concurrent enrollment puts them on a “fast track” to earning a college degree. Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Get a jump-start on college. The credits you earn can count toward your college degree or certificate.
  • Save money! Concurrent enrollment courses are at no cost to you! There are no tuition, fees, or charges for books.
  • Gain a competitive edge. College work is harder than high school work. Learning how to do well in college classes is easier when you're taking just one or two courses.
  • Acquire important academic skills. The critical thinking, reading, and writing skills you build in concurrent enrollment courses will prepare you for higher education success. Develop college-level study habits and time-management skills before you graduate high school.
  • Learn like you will in college. College courses evaluate what you’re learning in lots of ways: tests, papers, presentations, etc. You will experience many of these processes in your concurrent enrollment courses.
  • Gain “college knowledge” and resources. Navigating a college environment can be challenging. You will gain access to Normandale services, resources, and tools to advocate for yourself as you learn.
  • Build confidence in your ability to succeed in college. Concurrent courses can help make the transition from high school to college easier.
