Normandale celebrated its 2021 graduating class with a virtual Commencement Ceremony on May 17

Normandale Community College celebrated its 2021 graduating class with a virtual Commencement Ceremony that was livestreamed through on Monday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. You can watch the whole ceremony or any part of it by going to the link which is on

The virtual ceremony featured slides to honor all of the 2021 graduates who signed up for the Commencement Ceremony, and a collection of speakers and performances designed to honor this year's graduating class.

The ceremony presented a musical performance "I Just Might" from the 9 to 5 Musical by Dolly Parton performed by students Abby Holmstrom, Shelby Lengyel, Nora Sonneborn and with accompaniment by Bradley Beahen, student stories with 2021 graduates Pitoudavid By, Margarita Sanchez and Laurence Henderson, an original poem by 2021 graduate Amanda Judd, and Student Remarks by Commencement Student Speaker Shelvon Caine.

Normandale alumni Dr. Callistus Ditah (Class of 2009) and Karina Moreno (Class of 2011) also spoke about their experiences at Normandale as part of the ceremony.

The 2021 Distinguished Faculty Award was presented to Dental Hygiene Instructor Carol Larsen and last year's recipient Dr. Nancy Johnson spoke as part of this year's ceremony as well.

Normandale President Dr. Joyce Ester, Minnesota State Chancellor Dr. Devinder Malhotra, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Chair of the Board of Trustees Jay Cowles, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Kristina Keller, Vice President of Student Affairs Dara Hagen, Vice President Andrea Specht, Normandale Biology Instructor and President of the Faculty Association Hattie Dambroski were also featured speakers.
