Non-degree seeking students (also known as visiting students) take classes without the intent of completing a degree or certificate. With this option, you can expand your knowledge and experience or take classes to transfer back to your current college or university.
Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid or veteran's benefits but do have access to campus services. Payment plan options are available.
If you're a student at the University of Minnesota, a private college or university, or an out-of-state institution, and you want to take a course or two at Normandale Community College without pursuing a degree, you are a non-degree seeking student.
If you're currently enrolled at another Minnesota State institution, no need to submit an admissions application, go right ahead and register for courses.
As a Normandale non-degree seeking student, you can use your time here to meet prerequisites for graduate studies, enhance your job skills or explore an area of interest. Pick up a few classes at Normandale while you’re enrolled at another college or university.

Follow the steps below if you are not already admitted to any Minnesota State institution.
If you're currently enrolled at another Minnesota State institution, you can register in eServices.
To get started, create a "StarID.” This will be your username at all Minnesota State institutions throughout your college career.
Once you're logged in, the application form will guide you through the easy questions and submission process. You can skip the High School Preparation Standards and Major Academic Program sections.

After we've received your application, you'll receive your acceptance letter via email and postal mail. Be sure to check the personal email account you provided on the application frequently.
You will have the option to complete course placements and the online orientation.
Once you are accepted, you can begin registering for classes. Search and register for classes online using e-Services.
If you wish to register for a course with prerequisites, submit a prerequisite verification form.
You'll see prerequisites listed in eServices and the college catalog. It is your responsibility to enroll only in courses for which you have met the requirements.
You may need to provide transcripts or show documentation to satisfy course placement. You may be removed from a class without a refund if prerequisites are not met.
When you register for classes, you are responsible for the tuition and fees. View your tuition bill and make payments online through e-Services.
Financial aid is not available through Normandale for non-degree seeking students. Tuition payment dates vary. Payment arrangements are available.
You can buy books online or in person. To purchase them in person, print out your class schedule and visit the Textbook Depot located in the lower level of the Kopp Student Center K0436.
Your student ID card is your official Normandale ID, and is needed to access some services on campus. Student ID cards are issued to students free of charge and will be available 24 hours after registering for classes.
Visit the Services Desk in the Kopp Student Center to pick up your card. You will need to bring a photo ID and your Normandale student ID number (included in your acceptance) with you to collect it.
Normandale provides an e-mail account for all students. This is the only e-mail account we will use to communicate with you.
You will need your StarID and password to access your student email. Contact the ITS Service Desk for assistance.
If you have registered for an online course, the D2L Brightspace Orientation Videos will help you become familiar with our online course delivery system. You will need your StarID and password to log in to D2L.
After your final grades for the semester have been posted, you can order an official transcript to be sent to your home college or university through National Student Clearinghouse for a small fee. Be sure to follow up with your home institution to confirm that your credits have been successfully added to your record.
Affordable, short programs provide non-credit courses and certificate programs for individuals, teams and organizations.
