Due to our ongoing efforts to ensure the health and safety of our students during the COVID-19 pandemic, significant modifications to our existing placement practices are required. Most notably, this includes suspending all in-person and online course placement testing and services until further notice. Normandale Communtity College will use one or more of the following placement measures to determine a student's course placement within reading, writing, and mathematics to all students. Once the documentation has been evaluated, notification of test waivers will be sent via email.
SUBMITTING ACT, SAT, MCA SCORE REPORTS
Students interested in possible placement test waivers must submit ACT, SAT, MN Comprehensive Assessment (MCA), or ACCUPLACER results taken at another institution to the Office of Admissions at the time they apply for admission or once the scores are available.

Transfer students who have taken college-level coursework at a regionally accredited college or university may have already satisfied some or all course placement requirements. Once the documentation has been evaluated, notification of placement waivers will be sent via email. To obtain a placement waiver, students should submit official transcripts from all colleges they have attended to:

Note: Electronic transcript retrieval is now possible among all MN State institutions to facilitate the transfer of students between MN State College and Universities. As a result it is no longer necessary for most students to order transcripts to be sent to another MN State institution. Normandale will review the transcripts and grant a placement test waiver in the associated academic skill area as below.
Students who have earned college credits from items such as Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or International Baccalaureate (IB) must submit official transcripts to the Records and Registration office. Waivers are given in the associate academic skill area if the following scores are met.
• 3 or higher on the AP exam
• 4 or higher on the IB course
• 50 or higher on the CLEP test
