Get certified to become a career counselor
Whether you are new to teacher education or career counseling or want to bolster your on-the-job experience with a certification, education and career counseling programs at Normandale are a way for you to enter into or expand your career.
Sometimes called paraeducators, education assistants, instructional assistants or education support people (ESP), paraprofessionals and teacher assistants are essential to providing exceptional learning experiences to students. That’s why they are in such high demand at public and private schools, where they support students and teachers in the classroom or online.
As a paraprofessional/teacher assistant, you may work one-on-one with students or in small groups. It is common for paraprofessionals/teacher assistants to work with children in a school’s special education program or students struggling with reading, math, and language skills.
Good candidates for paraprofessional/teacher assistant careers like working with children and collaborating with teachers. You may want to get out of the corporate grind or find a career that matches your kids’ school schedule.
With Normandale’s paraprofessional/teacher assistant program, you will build new skills or bolster your current ones to increase your employability. Coursework is completed virtually in the evening. Participants will receive additional support in career readiness, personal financial management, and other assistance. Upon completion, you’ll be ready to apply for jobs. Once employed, you are eligible to enroll in Normandale’s Introduction to Education course, a for-credit class that puts you on the path to pursue an education degree if so choose.
If you want to help adults find their next job opportunity at an educational institution or workforce development, non-profit, government, or community agency, consider pursuing your GCDF and Certified Career Service Provider (CCSP) certifications. After completing your certifications at Normandale, you’ll be prepared to pursue a career at these organizations or start your own private workforce development practice.
When you enroll in Normandale’s GCDF program, you can expect training to be highly interactive and fast-paced. Coursework is completed online at your own pace, with several virtual meetings with your instructor and fellow classmates throughout the term. Upon completion, you will become a certified GCDF and CCSP professional with the National Career Development Association and the Center for Credentialing & Education, Inc.
Completing a program or earning a certification proves that you are a well-rounded, high-performing professional many organizations actively search for. Investing in your skills can help you get ahead and stay ahead.
