Peer Mentor Program
A Peer Mentor is a Normandale student who assists another student on a one-to-one, confidential basis. Peer Mentors work with a variety of students including new students, adult returning students, English as a Second Language students and students experiencing academic difficulty. If you are interested in becoming a Peer Mentor, contact Paul Harlos, Counselor. To request a Peer Mentor, obtain an application form from the receptionist in the College Center.
TRIO Programs
TRIO programs were created in 1965 to help low-income and first-generation students achieve educational goals. Through funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, these programs provide advising, academic instruction, career exploration, and support services to select disadvantaged students. Normandale offers help through three programs: Student Support Services, Upward Bound, and Educational Talent Search.

Student Support Services is designed to assist low-income, first generation (neither parent has a four-year degree) and disabled students enrolled at Normandale. SSS offers a variety of support services to insure student's retention, graduation, and transfer. For more information about Student Support Services, call 952-487-8195.
Upward Bound

Upward Bound is funded through a grant awarded by the US Department of Education to Normandale Community College. The purpose of the program is to recruit, identify, and select eligible low-income, first-generation youth in grades 9-11 with the potential for eventual success in education at the post-secondary level.
Upward Bound is designed to provide advising, tutoring and support services to eligible students. For more information about the Upward Bound program, call 952-487-8195.
Educational Talent Search
Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a program designed to help low-income, first generation students explore careers and post-secondary options. ETS works with students in grades 7 through 12 in seven partner schools in the southwest metro area. The program emphasizes educational and occupational readiness, and placing students in post-secondary education. For more information about ETS, call 952-487-8195.
Veterans' Benefits
Veterans can receive up to 36 months of educational assistance through the GI bill for full-time attendance. Benefits are also paid for part-time attendance. Contact the Records Office for information about applying and receiving benefits.

Writing Center

The Writing Center offers personal, free, non-credit tutorial guidance, helping students to improve their academic communication skills with specific writing assignments for any Normandale course. The Writing Center is open 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Appointments are encouraged.
