President's Note

There are many things to be excited about as we complete a very successful academic year at Normandale Community College. On February 7, 2013, Normandale celebrated the Grand Opening of the Partnership Center. The Partnership Center was the latest of three projects, totaling $50 million over the past two years, that were designed to expand the campus and improve student experiences. We are excited about the cutting edge programs and opportunities that these new additions to our campus will provide to our student population going forward.

Our campus continues to be a busy place where many different activities and events occur on a daily basis. Two signature events that connected the community to Normandale were the Toast of the Town Challenge and Success Day. The Toast of the Town Challenge raised $142,600 this year. This event has raised nearly half a million dollars in the past four years for student programs and scholarships. This spring, we also welcomed community members, staff and students to campus for the fourth annual Success Day, which featured some truly memorable sessions, speeches and performances that showcased the knowledge and expertise that is shared at Normandale.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Colleen Simpson, who was recently hired as our Executive Director of Foundation and Resource Development. Colleen comes to Normandale with over 20 years of successful fundraising experience, and we are excited about her addition to the college.

In this issue of Creating Futures, you will learn about the gifts Drs. V. and Mrs. Jaya Premanand have given to Normandale to support Math scholarships and the Fine Arts Department. The new Partnership Center will also be featured, and we will spotlight Alumni Achievement Award winner Richard St. Germain.

We hope that these stories give you a glimpse into some of the noteworthy activities that occur on our campus, and showcase the bond that is created with alumni, faculty and staff, and community members who contribute to experience all that Normandale has to offer. With the additions to our campus, the aspirations of our students and the high level of work by our faculty and staff the future of Normandale continues to look bright.
