How To Apply
Apply Now
This application process is for the Federal and State financial aid programs and the Normandale Scholarship program. The Financial Aid and Scholarship Office recommends that you apply electronically by using FAFSA on the Web . Application for financial aid should be made well in advance of the time funds are needed. We recommend allowing at least five weeks for the processing of your financial aid file. Please keep in mind that you must reapply for financial aid each year and you cannot receive aid from more than one school for the same period of enrollment.
If you are male between the ages of 18 and 25, you must have registered for the selective service in order to receive Financial Aid. Register for selective service online by going to the Selective Service System web page.
Application Process
- Step 1. Apply for your Federal PIN . Your parents should apply for a PIN, also. Your PIN serves as your electronic signature. For fastest processing, we encourage you to get your PIN before you file the FAFSA (you can also request your PIN before you submit).
- Step 2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line at FAFSA On the WEB for the year that you plan to attend Normandale. You must complete a new FAFSA each year you want to receive financial aid. Normandale's Title IV School code is 007954. Your name and social security number must be reported just like they appear on your Social Security card or it will cause delays.
- NEW! For the fastest processing time, we recommend that you use the IRS Data Retrieval (IDR) process. IDR allows you to transfer your federal tax data directly from the IRS to your FAFSA. If you are unable to use IDR, you should request a copy of your Federal Tax Transcript in case you are selected for verification. If you will not file a federal tax return, keep a copy of your W2s from all jobs worked. For an online tutorial on using IDR, please visit the You Tube video created by the University of California, Santa Barbara.
- Step 3. Turn in all documents requested by the Normandale Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. Make sure that all documents are signed by you, your spouse, and parents (if applicable). It is your responsibility to complete your application file, so take a proactive approach to make sure that you have done all that you need to do. Please feel free to call (952-358-8250) us at any time to check on the status of your file! We want to make this process as easy and understandable as possible. To ensure priority consideration for all programs for the next school year, your financial aid file must be completed by April 1st. Files completed after that date will be processed and awarded with funds still available.
- NEW! Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, verification requirements are changing. Students who do not use the IRS Data Retrieval may be asked to provide copies of their Federal Tax Transcripts and/or W2s from all jobs worked. In addition, documentation of receipt of food stamps or child support paid may also be required. If you have any of these documents, we recommend you keep a copy ready. If these documents are needed, we will send you the request via mail and email - do not submit these documents unless we have requested them.
- Step 4. When your file is complete (ie. all documents requested have been submitted) it will be reviewed. If we need additional information, a request for that information will be emailed to you. If we have all the information we need, we calculate your awards and email an award letter to you. Your award letter will tell you what types of funds you are eligible for and the amount you are eligible for at your enrollment level. Be sure to read all required documents...there is important information regarding your rights and responsibilities that you need to be aware of!

Transfer Students
If you complete your financial aid file at another school and later decide to attend Normandale during that same school year, you must complete your financial aid file at Normandale. Financial aid does not transfer from one institution to another. To get that process started, you must add Normandale to your processed FAFSA.
You have two options (choose only one) to add Normandale to your processed FAFSA:
- Process the change electronically. This is the recommended method. To request the change electronically:
1. You must have a PIN number. You can request your PIN at Federal PIN .
2. Once you have your PIN, go to FAFSA on the Web
3. Select "Start Here" and login to your completed FAFSA.
4. Add Normandale Community College, Code #007954, on the "School Information" Tab.
OR - Telephone the Central Processor and request the change be made.
To request the change by phone:
1. Locate your Data Release Number (DRN), found in the upper right hand corner of your Student Aid Report.
2. Call the Central Processor at: 800.433.3243.
3. Follow the directions of the automated response system to add Normandale Community College, Code #007954. Normandale will receive your information in about 10 days.
