Non-academic Requirements

To promote student and patient safety and insure readiness and success the nursing department requires the following:

  • Students must meet the Minnesota State Colleges and University (MnSCU) performance standards for nursing students: MnSCU Performance Standards for Nursing Programs [PDF] may be found by clicking here. Normandale is committed to providing reasonable accommodations. Students requesting accommodations are to contact the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) on the Normandale Campus.

  • Students will provide documentation (Required Health and Immunization form) signed by their health care provider each year they are in the nursing program. Documentation will be provided to the Health Sciences Enrollment Manager by the due date stated at nursing student orientation.

  • Immunization status must meet the Center for Disease (CDC) recommended immunization schedule for adults (and where applicable, healthcare providers). Documentation of immunizations will be provided to the Health Sciences Enrollment Manager by the due date stated at nursing student orientation.

  • Students will provide evidence of negative Tuberculosis status which meets the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) requirements.

  • Students will complete a Minnesota Department of Human Services Background study and must receive full clearance. Specific instructions on completing the study will be provided during nursing student orientation sessions.

  • Students will maintain CPR certification throughout the program. Documentation of CPR certification will be provided to the Health Sciences Enrollment Manager by the due date stated at nursing student orientation.

  • Accepted students will complete a Minnesota Department of Human Services eLearning Course on Protecting Information privacy (HIPAA) each year of the nursing program. Students must provide documentation of a passing score to the Health Sciences Enrollment Manager by the due date stated at nursing student orientation. Specific instructions on completing the course will be provided during nursing student orientation sessions.
