Tell Your Students About America Reads and Counts
The Center for Experiential Education is now accepting applications for students to be America Reads and Counts math or reading tutors for students in the Bloomington Public Schools. Application deadline is Thursday. Sept. 8. A message you can share with your students is below...

America Reads and Counts is a tutoring program where Normandale students volunteer or work within the Bloomington Public School District to help kindergarten through high school children improve their reading and math skills. Tutors spend about two hours a week during a set time at a Bloomington school. Tutors help students one-on-one in the classroom or help during the after school homework help programs. Tutoring positions are generally between the hours of 7:45 am-7:30 pm, Monday-Thursday and 7:45 am-3:15 pm, Fridays. Students can volunteer or can get paid through work study, if they are eligible.

If you have questions, contact Paige Wheeler, Lead Experiential Education Coordinator,, or call 952-358-9074.

Application Deadline is Thursday, September 8. To apply and for application instructions, click on the link below.

Online Safety Training
We will once again be using CLMI as our safety training source to help make our campus a safe place to work and to help us meet OSHA mandated requirements.

If you work in any of the following departments, we are asking that you complete the training by October 31: Art, Biology, Campus Store and Text Book Depot, Chemistry, Copy/Duplicating, Dental, Diet Tech, Exercise Science, Facilities, IT, Nursing, Physics/Engineering, Public Safety, Theater.

If you are teaching a class within these areas which does not involve the use of one of our labs or studios you will be exempt from this training. In Facilities, Jan Fedora from the Minnesota Safety Council will be doing "in person" training for those not familiar with computers in late September.

How do I find it? Just look under helpful links on the Employee Portal for the Environmental Health and Safety link, click on Safety Training and enter your STARID. The required training will prompt up.

What if I am not able to access it? If you have not completed this training in the past or are new, please forward your name to Jon Hanson along with your, department name and STARID and we will have you entered into the system by September 1.

What else is new: All future training will be housed through the Employee Service Center (same place as your payroll information) and will become part of your records that you will be able to access. We expect this transition to start sometime in January.
