Normandale hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Week events February 13-17

Normandale Community College will host Domestic Violence Awareness Week events on February 13-17. These events will be presented courtesy of the Normandale Counseling, Psychology and Sociology Departments.

During the week (through March 3) there will be a Kopp Student Center Art Wall display with information, resources, reflection and activities. Come pick up a purple ribbon to show your support and raise awareness.  

There will be two hours each day of the week devoted to Service Projects. Come to the Kopp Student Center Wall area to make fleece tie blankets that will be donated to children served by Tubman Center, which helps women, children and families struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse and mental health. The Service Project times will be scheduled on Monday, February 13 from 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, February 14 from 12 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, February 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Friday, February 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Restorative Yoga sessions will take place on Tuesday, February 14 from 1:30 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 15 from 2 to 3 p.m. and Thursday, February 16 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in Room A 1560.

On Wednesday, February 15 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Room C 1095, "Choices and Charge" will feature a panel of female offenders from the Shakopee Women's who will present about the impact that domestic violence had on their lives. They will also share about the concept of restorative justice, in which offenders give back to the community.

There will also be a Cornerstone representative on campus on Thursday, February 16 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to discuss domestic violence and share about Cornerstone's services, resources and recovery.
