Course Prerequisites

A prerequisite is a requirement that a student must complete in order to enroll in a course. Prerequisites include courses, placement test results, and other criteria established by faculty to ensure a student is prepared to succeed in a course. The college catalog, the semester course schedule and e-Services indicate course prerequisites. E-Services does not enforce prerequisites for all classes, but students are responsible for understanding and adhering to prerequisite requirements for all classes.

For mathematics courses, prerequisites must have been completed within the past two years before the date the course begins.

If you need help

If you have met prerequisites for a course with ACT or SAT testing (taken within the last five years), please submit a PDF of your score report to records@normandale.edu (and include your name and Tech ID). Your student record will be updated with these placement levels and allow for online registration.

If you are unable to register for a course online and believe you have satisfied the course prerequisites through a transfer or Normandale course, please submit a Prerequisite Verification form. To complete the eform, you will need to have handy:

  • Your StarID and password to log in
  • A PDF copy of your transcript which includes the required prerequisite.

You may also visit the Advising and Counseling during walk-in hours for assistance. Beginning October 17, 2019, the Advising and Counseling Department will be temporarily located on the first level of the Partnership Center (P0806).
