Normandale Community College will host its fifth annual STEMLink event for fifth and sixth graders on campus on Friday, May 11 from 8:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
STEMLink brings STEM careers to life as fifth and sixth-grade students participate in three 60-minute interactive sessions on a college campus in college labs with professionals from the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, dental hygiene, dietetic technology, engineering, exercise science, health, math, nursing, and physics.
Success Beyond the Classroom (SBC) has collaborated with Normandale for the past four years to bring students to campus for a day of STEM exploration and discovery in the labs and classrooms. The program involves Normandale's STEM, Education and Health Science faculty along with other outside STEM professionals. There is a huge demand from the schools for STEM programming.
Last year, 1,500 fifth/sixth grade students discovered what it would be like to explore STEM careers in the labs and classrooms at Normandale Community College and Century College. Hands-on sessions led by college faculty and other professionals from the STEM fields challenged students to consider their future in new ways.
