Book Charging Service
You do not need to complete a Book Charging Application in order to qualify for book charging of $600 or less. Please read the following information to learn about the Book Charging process.
Who is Eligible?
You may charge the cost of your books up to five days prior to financial aid being disbursed if:
- You have received your Financial Aid Award Letter. You can view your awards at E-services; AND
- You are registered for the term for which you are purchasing books; AND
- The total financial aid you will be receiving at your registered credit level exceeds your tuition and fees. If your Direct Loans are needed to exceed your tuition & fees, they must be in Certified status. You can view your loan status at E-services.
Please note that the approved amount could change depending on your registered credit level or your financial aid eligibility. Changes in your registered credit levels could result in your approved amount being reduced or you could become ineligible for book charging. You may also become ineligible for book charging if you are placed on Financial Aid Suspension due to not meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
You will receive an email to your my.normandale.edu email account when your eligibility for Book Charging has been determined. The email will include the maximum amount that you may charge for textbooks and supplies. Emails to financial aid recipients will begin to be sent out approximately one week prior to the start of book charging.

You will be held responsible for full payment of your books if you become ineligible for financial aid or your aid is not enough to cover tuition/fees and your books.
Failure to pay all charges on your account will prevent you from registering for future courses and a hold will be placed on your academic records at Normandale. Your debt will also be referred to the Minnesota Department of Revenue for collection.
Book Charging Guidelines
For information about Book Charging for non-financial aid recipients (e.g. PSEO students, Third-Party (VA CH. 31, DRS, dislocated workers, military deferments, etc), and students on the Nelnet Payment plan), please visit the Business Office Book Purchasing website.
Other Important Information
Book charging is NOT additional financial aid! Book charging allows you to use the financial aid that you have already qualified for before the semester starts. If your financial aid eligibility changes after you have purchased your books, you will be responsible for your full payment due of books purchased through book charging.
The amount available to you for book charging will be based on the approved financial aid awards you are receiving at your registered credit level for the term less tuition and fees. This amount will be rounded down to the nearest fifty dollar increment, not to exceed $600. If you wish to request an increase in your awarded amount you must complete the Request Form available online at the Business Office Book Purchasing website. Approvals/denials will be completed within two (2) business days.
