Creating Futures, Summer 2014
Success, highlights and gratitude
Normandale recently completed another successful academic year. We celebrated successes such as becoming certified as a “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” military-friendly organization; strengthening existing partnerships with Metropolitan State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato to provide quality bachelor's and master's degree offerings on our campus; opening up our college to the community for the fifth-annual Success Day; and continuing to work on projects with business and industry partners.
Another highlight: the annual Scholarship and Donor Recognition Event, which recognized students who received scholarships through the Normandale Community College Foundation. The event strengthens the relationship between donors, students, faculty, and staff. It also celebrates the opportunities that the scholarships provide.
As we approach the 2014 fall semester I want to let you know about our second annual gala, which will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Bloomington on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014. The Normandale Community College Foundation hosted the inaugural gala last year, raising $162,737. Please join us this year as we honor longtime Normandale friend Mahendra Nath.
In this issue, you will learn about our Theatre Department, which will host the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Region V Festival in 2015 and 2016. Ours is one of only a few two-year college theatre departments to receive that honor. You'll learn about a Delta Dental grant awarded to our Dental Hygiene department, a generous scholarship from the John and Janet Desmond Foundation, and updates on some successful alumni.
I would also like to congratulate Vice President of Academic Affairs Julie Guelich and Campus Cupboard members, all of whom recently received MnSCU awards for service to the college and the community.
It was another exciting and memorable year. In my seven years as Normandale president, I have enjoyed working with many great students, faculty and staff members. I will retire on Aug. 1, 2014 to pursue new interests and personal growth opportunities. Dr. Joyce Ester will take over as president on Aug. 2, 2014. I am confident she will do wonderful things here. Finally, thank you to all of the community members who continue to support Normandale.
