Joy Heinz Watson is the owner of the Modern Joy Lifestyle Portrait Photography Studio (www.modernjoyphoto.com). Her successful business venture is a byproduct of talent, technology and a great foundation of skills that she learned at Normandale.
Watson came to Normandale as an artist with a passion for drawing and thought her career would follow that path. But after taking Intro to Photography at Normandale, she fell in love with the process of capturing a real life moment and making it look special.
“When I took my first photography class it took me a while to learn some of the techniques, but I really enjoyed it,” said Watson. “The personal attention that my instructors provided really helped me learn a variety of techniques, and I landed an internship which really got me started in the field. Normandale not only helped me get started in photography, but did a great job providing me an excellent education.”
Watson’s business is a mobile one, as her husband is a Marine who has been stationed in several locations over the last two and a half years.
“I am able to market my business in a variety of ways so it follows me wherever I move to. I now use the business to provide employment opportunities to other military wives who move around. It is great to be able to provide that opportunity.”
