7.4 Tuition and Fee Deferment

Purpose:  To fulfill Board policy with regard to deferring tuition and fee payments at Normandale Community College.

Part 1: Conditions of Deferment

The college has defined conditions under which a student will be granted a deferment of tuition and fees.


Subpart A: Business Office deferment
Deferments are granted by the Business Office under the following conditions:

  1. Student has a valid payment plan
  2. Student has a third party agreement that has been verified
  3. Student has a verified 529 tuition plan
  4. Student is eligible for the employee tuition waiver

Subpart B:  Eligibility for Veterans Administration funding
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) administers a variety of education benefit programs.  Students who are eligible for one or more of these programs may have their tuition and fees deferred.


Subpart C:  Extenuating circumstances
Extenuating circumstances beyond the student’s control that delay payment for a short period of time may be the basis for deferment.

Part 2: Authorization to Defer the Tuition and Fees

Subpart A:  Business Office supervisor will approve all deferments and documentation for all deferments will be maintained along with the waivers and other account adjustments. The Fiscal Director will check the monthly documentation for accuracy and legitimacy. 


Subpart B:  VA deferments will be approved by the VA certifying official on campus


Subpart C:  A designated administrator shall approve all deferments for extenuating circumstances.  Designated administrators include the President, Vice Presidents and the Dean and Associate Dean of Students.
