Myles E. Johnson Scholarship Application
This $1,000 Scholarship is intended to encourage students to continue their education at Normandale Community College and to take an advanced (2000-level) course in Psychology.
- Be currently enrolled at Normandale
- Have completed 12 credits at Normandale Community College with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
- Have completed Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 1110) at Normandale with a B or higher.
- Have financial need, as determined by FAFSA.
- Have written and submitted a scholarship essay (see below).
-The Psychology Department invites applicants from all backgrounds, including diverse groups, first-generation college students, and non-Psychology majors.
-The scholarship is intended to support students in taking a 2000-level Psychology course. The scholarship funds will become available when the recipient enrolls in a 2000-level Psychology course during the next academic year.
-The Myles E. Johnson Psychology Scholarship recipient must contact the Chair of the Psychology Department upon having enrolled in a 2000-level course. Scholarship funds will not be distributed until after the add/drop deadline, which is the end of the first week of class.
-Previous recipients are ineligible.
Dr. Myles E. Johnson taught undergraduate and graduate Psychology courses for over 45+ years at various colleges and universities, including Ball State University, Clark College, Sheridan College, and St. Mary's University of Minnesota. He taught at Normandale from 1973 to 2005. During this time, he published research and commentaries in a variety of scholarly and popular sources, on topics such as hypnosis, moral worry, religion, awe, and education. This scholarship is a testimony to his dedication to education, psychological science, and most of all, students.
