A Streetcar Named Desire
By Tennessee Williams
Directed by Kurt Schweickhardt
October 21-24, 2009 at 7:30pm and October 24 at 2:00pm
Set against the steamy backdrop of New Orleans' gritty French Quarter, Tennessee Williams' 1947 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama tells the story of Blanch Dubois, a faded Southern belle driven to madness by her animalistic brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. As Blanche's fragile grip on reality unravels, ideas of love and loss are called into question, leading to a riveting conclusion. Lauded as one of Williams' most electrifying and absorbing theatrical masterpieces.
Anton in Show Business
By Jane Martin
Directed by Kathleen Bagby-Coate
December 2-5, 2009 at 7:30pm and December 5 at 2:00pm
This hit from the 24th Humana Festival of New American Plays and the winner of the 2000 American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Award takes you backstage in this uproarious comedy about Anton Chekhov's The Three Sisters in San Antonio, Texas. The play skewers incompetent producers, idiot directors, surgically beautified actors, crass sponsors, self-important critics and satirizes, celebrates, and challenges the importance of theatre as an art form today.
Urinetown
Book by Greg Kotis
Music and Lyrics by Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis
Directed by Sean Byrd
February 24-27and March 3-6, 2010 at 7:30pm and March 6 at 2:00pm
Winner of multiple award both on and off-broadway, Urinetown is an earnest tale of love, greed, and revolution that pokes fun at corporate greed, politics, and musical theatre! Set in a future in which water supplies have so dried up that it is truly a "Privelege to Pee", the destitute citizens must pay towering taxes and fines to carry out their most basic of needs. Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, this delightful musical will have you laughing 'til you...well, you know!
Tartuffe
By Moliere
Adapted by Richard Wilbur
Directed by Kurt Schweickhardt
April 21-24, 2010 at 7:30pm and April 24 at 2:00pm
A sparkling version of one of the great comedies of the French theatre, Tartuffe-a pious imposter-has insinuated himself into the home of the wealthy Orgon. He succeeds magnificently in manipulating everyone. Will his ulterior motives be exposed and punished? Sure to leave the audience laughing yet realizing the evil that men can commit in the guise of religious fervor and moral duplicity.
