Normandale News August 22, 2016

By Information collected from submissions, and through postings on Normandale's website

We are excited to start off the new academic year! As you start your week, please take time to look through the information below for helpful resources and to learn more about what is happening on campus.
Hallway help needed
A large number of fall semester students will be new to Normandale the week of August 22. If you can spare a few moments, especially Monday and Tuesday mornings, help is appreciated in College Services (first and second floor), at the Kopp Student Center and Partnership Center entrances and in the Fine Arts Building. Your assistance to the "lost and confused" is very much appreciated! Don't forget to wear your name badge as students are delighted to know the names of those helping them.
Welcome Week is around the corner
Join us for Welcome Week during the second week of the semester and encourage your students to attend. The week is filled with events and activities to help get students connected to campus life, clubs and organizations, and academic departments. This is a prime opportunity for faculty and staff to engage with students as we kick off another great year at Normandale!
We Roar! Employee Annual Giving Campaign
During Opening Workshop, We Roar! Annual Giving brochures were distributed during the Convocation in the Auditorium. If you haven't already made your pledge or gift, please take a moment to do so now. With your support, we can help more students, provide more funding for programs, and have a greater impact on the community we serve. For further information or to pick up a brochure, stop by the Foundation Office in C 2117.

Normandale and Title IX
Normandale is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and diverse college community that values each individual.

Our efforts to support Title IX, promote gender equity and prevent sexual violence fall in line with our core values. As we begin fall semester, your assistance and support cultivating a working and learning environment reflective of Normandale's core beliefs is requested. Please take time to become familiar with Normandale's Title IX web pages. They contain important information regarding our responsibilities relative to Title IX.

To learn more about the important role Normandale faculty and staff members' have in this effort, available on- and off-campus resources, the College's statement of non-discrimination on the basis of gender or sex, myths and facts about sexual misconduct, our campus reporting process, and other important information, please visit the Title IX web pages by clicking on the link below.
Normandale 20/20 Initiative
At least 200 faculty and staff turned out during Opening Workshop for a visioning session. Thank you for your participation! Additional visioning sessions for staff (including second shift), students, and community members will be scheduled throughout the fall. There are plans to integrate the various visions we created throughout this process, and draft versions of the campus visions will be shared with the entire community, so stay tuned.

For more detailed information, visit the "Announcements" section on the employee portal.
MnSCU has a new name
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees voted yes on a resolution to change what the System calls itself, from "MnSCU" to "Minnesota State."

The decision was made to make it easier for prospective students to remember the name and understand how all the colleges and universities in the system are connected. Here at Normandale, this means we'll be using up our printed letterhead and collateral. After depleting the current supply, we will include the new system affiliation identifier on new orders. We'll also update our current website and consider collaborative marketing efforts. As a campus community, we want to make sure we assess where and when these changes need to be made. A campus implementation plan will be provided in late August to provide instructions going forward. We welcome any questions you might have about this process.

If you have any questions about Minnesota State logos or system identifiers contact the Marketing Communications Office at For more information about Minnesota State, visit our "Usage and Guidelines" page by clicking on the link below.
