Normandale Community was ranked No. 5 in a Top 50 list of Best Value Community Colleges in nation.

The list was compiled by www.valuecolleges.com using data from College Measures, a Gates Foundation-supported database. The website surveyed 1,717 Community Colleges in the United States that offer two-year associate degrees. Criteria for the rankings included average to high graduation rates (45%), low-to-average cost (under $10,000 per year), over 1,000 enrolled students and an American Association of Community Colleges members.

The initial list had 614 institutions meeting the criteria. The top 50 ranking was derived from the highest scoring schools based on three metrics:

  • Graduation/Transfer rate (IPEDS database)
  • Mid-level salary for graduates (when applicable/from payscale.com)
  • Actual tuition (IPEDS database) Six Minnesota State colleges ranked in the Top 50. Only California and Texas had more two-year colleges in the rankings.
