Mental Health Screening Day at Normandale
Each year Normandale Community College hosts an on-site Mental Health Screening event. As part of the event students can receive a free mental health screening and discuss their results with a counselor. The questions address issues in the areas of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and mood disorders. For students who may need more help or resources than a counselor can provide there will be therapists present as well as referral options.
- Assist on campus with this national screening effort, 2 hour commitment.
- Thursday, February 22, 2018, in the Nath Advising Center in the College Services Building at Normandale. Service-Learners and Volunteers can sign up for the following shifts:
Help with set up 8:30-10:00 =1.5 hours
10:00 to 12:00 =2 hours
12:00 to 2:00=2 hours
2:00 to 4:00=2 hours
4:00 to 6:00=2 hours
- Volunteer responsibilities include greeting participants and explaining the process. We also need volunteers to run assessments to be scored and then to therapists and counselors waiting to talk to participants. Finally, we need volunteers to do the scoring of the actual assessment. Volunteers may be given the opportunity to take the assessment and sit down with a therapist and/or counselor to go over results.
