Book Charging Service
Book charging allows you to add the cost of your books purchased at the Normandale bookstore to your tuition and fees account, delaying payment for your books until after the semester has started. Financial Aid applicants and students who are enrolled in the Nelnet Payment Plan may be able to use book charging.
Financial aid recipients can use aid in excess of tuition and fees to pay for their books purchased from the Normandale Textbook Depot. Book charging is NOT additional financial aid! If your financial aid eligibility is not sufficient to cover your tuition, fees and charged books, you will be responsible for the payment of the remaining balance due.
For Summer 2017, financial aid applicants may charge the cost of books up to $600 if:
- You are registered for summer; AND
- Normandale has received a valid 2016-2017 FAFSA: AND
- You do not have any holds for past due balance or financial aid suspension on your record
You will receive an email to your my.normandale.edu email account notifying you when you are eligible for book charging.
Your eligibility may change if you are suspended from financial aid or your account becomes past due after your book charging eligibility was originally determined.
Fall 2017 dates for book charging are Monday, July 24th - Thursday, August 24th.
Spring 2018 book charging begins in December, check back for more information in late November.
Financial Aid Recipient Responsibilities
This is not free money or additional financial aid. You are paying for your textbooks through financial aid or your own payment. You are responsible for full payment of your books if you become ineligible for financial aid or if your aid is not enough to cover tuition/fees and your books.
Failure to pay all charges on your account will prevent you from registering for future courses. A hold will be placed on your academic record at Normandale and any debt may be referred to a collections agency.
If you wish to charge supplies (such as notebooks, pens, backpacks, etc.) in the Normandale Campus Store, you will be required to sign a consent when picking up your items. Students who wish to buy technology items using Financial Aid Booking Charging must complete the Financial Aid Request for Computers/Electronic Equipment form online and will be required to sign a consent form when picking up your technology items.
Federal regulations require that students give consent for all non-textbook purchases that they wish to charge against financial aid.
Nelnet Payment Plan Book Charging
Students who are currently enrolled in the Nelnet Payment Plan may include the cost of books in their payment plan.
To qualify for Nelnet Payment Plan Book charging:
- Enroll in the Nelnet Payment Plan via e-services.
- Complete the online Book Charging form. Your payment plan must be active in order to utilize the book charging program
- All prior term balances must be paid in full (no past due payment holds) on your account.
After your application is processed, you will receive an email to your my.normandale.edu email account telling you that you are eligible for up to $600 in book charging. If shopping for books online, select "Payment Plan" under Payment Options. If you are shopping in person, you may tell them the books are being charged to your Payment Plan (you must present a valid ID).
You are responsible for full payment of your books if you should default on your payment plan. Failure to pay all charges on your account will prevent you from registering for future courses. A hold will be placed on all your academic record at Normandale and any debt may be referred to a collections agency.
Fall 2017 dates for book charging are Monday, July 24th - Thursday, August 24th.
PSEO students will be informed of the process for getting books during their Advising and Registration session. After completing the required forms, students may pick up their books from the Normandale Textbook Depot. A copy of your schedule and a valid photo ID will be required. Only materials that are required for the course will be covered by the PSEO program.
All books acquired under the PSEO program must be returned to the Normandale Bookstore at the end of each semester per MN Statute 124D.09 Subd. 20. Failure to return books will prevent you from registering for future courses. A hold will be placed on your academic record at Normandale and any debt may be referred to a collections agency.
For questions on purchasing books for PSEO students, please contact Laura Karasev at 952-358-8221.
Veterans receiving Chapter 33 benefits are eligible for book reimbursement from the VA. In order to process this request, you must complete the VA Deferment form and submit it to the Records Office. Eligibility each term is limited to $500 for full-time enrollment and $250 for less-than-full-time enrollment. The amount is determined by the VA and paid directly to the student. Once students receive the funds from the VA, they are expected to reimburse the Payments and Billing Office for the amount of the books charged.

Students who are receiving Third Party benefits that cover books must provide this information to the Payments and Billing Office to make the funds available in the Normandale Textbook Depot. The amount of eligibility is determined by the Third Party payer.

HOW WILL I KNOW THAT I AM ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL AID/NELNET PAYMENT PLAN BOOK CHARGING?
An email will be sent to your my.normandale.edu email account from the Payments and Billing Office. You should check this email, including the junk email folder, to determine whether or not you are eligible. If you have not received the email notification, the Textbook Depot has not been notified and you will not be able to use book charging to purchase your books.
If you need assistance accessing your my.normandale.edu email account, please visit the Student Computing Services website. The Payments and Billing Office and Financial Aid Office cannot access your Normandale email account, so any questions on accessing your account should be resolved by visiting this website
HOW DO I DETERMINE IF I HAVE ENOUGH FINANCIAL AID TO COVER MY BOOKS?
Your financial aid will pay to your tuition and fees first. To calculate whether you will have enough financial aid remaining to cover your books, you can get the following information from e-services:
Total tuition & fees from the term (from Payments and Billing)
-Total financial aid for your credit level (from Financial Aid:Estimated Awards)
=Excess financial aid that can be used to pay for books
If you do not have excess financial aid or it is not enough to cover your books, you may still use book charging to add your book costs to your bill. However, you will be responsible for payment of your book costs that are not covered by financial aid.
WHAT IF I NEED MORE THAN $600 IN THE NORMANDALE TEXTBOOK DEPOT?
Financial Aid recipients who want to use an additional portion (over the limit of $600) must complete the Financial Aid Over $600 Book Charging Application form online. The electronic form will be electronically signed and submitted to the Payments and Billing Office. When you use an online form for the first time, you will be required to "Create an Account". If you already have an account and have forgotten your login or password, send an email to email@example.com for assistance.
HOW DO I PURCHASE MY BOOKS AFTER BOOK CHARGING HAS ALREADY ENDED?
After Thursday, June 1st book costs can no longer be added to your tuition and fees account via book charging (for financial aid recipients and Nelnet payment plan participants). If you wish to purchase books after book charging has ended, payment will be due to the bookstore at the time of purchase.
