Normandale Timeline - 1968-1978
Normandale was actually the third college started by Mr. Lorenz, he also founded North Hennepin and Willmar
Dale Lorenz- Normandale's First President
April 1968 - The first Normandale catalog is published. It is in a small format (6" x 9" ) and 73 pages in length.
August 1968 - Carlo Minnetti led the Normandale concert band from Normandale's opening in 1968 to his retirement 30 years later.
September 1968 - Normandale State Junior College opens its doors September 23, 1968 with an enrollment of 1,386.
August 1969 - Paul Clement and Sue Krystosek were nominated Normandale's first Snow King and Queen.
September 1969 - Enrollment nearly doubles to over 2,500 students, making Normandale the largest community college in Minnesota.
1970- Normandale's first commencement ceremony took place at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, Chanhassen, MN.
1971- Normandale Theatre department presents, "The Caretaker," at the groundbreaking for the Fine Arts Building.
1972- The new Learning Resource Center opens.
1973- Normandale State Junior College becomes Normandale Community College
1974- Women's athletics introduced

1975- College pioneers services to students with disabilities
1976- The swampy area behind Normandale Community College was transformed into a beautiful Japanese Garden.
1977- Normandale Community College Foundation incorporated
1978- The college features recognized programs in concert band, choir, theatre, forensics and art.
