General Education
Students planning to transfer for upper-division academic work and those who plan to work after one or two years of college should include general education courses in their curriculums. Some students may choose only general education courses. Occupational competence is one part of an individual's life. We also function as a person, a member of a family and as a citizen.
The education which expands these aspects of life is called "general education" because it completes and makes more meaningful the specialized courses each student chooses. As a result of specialized training, the student expects to become professionally competent and skilled. General education provides competence in exercising the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.
