Reading Strategies

Often times it's not easy to tell what's really being said in a book, paper or article. This is why critical reading skills are needed to find out:

  • How language is used in the writing
  • The thesis or point of view
  • The author’s purpose in writing the article or book
  • Paragraph development and organization
  • The tone
  • How to analyze and evaluate arguments
  • How to read in different genres including varying characteristics of each genre.

The Critical Reading Course (READ 1106) will help anyone better comprehend, analyze and successfully interpret college-level material.
