Normandale hosts events for Domestic Violence Awareness Week on October 19-23

Normandale Community College will be hosting a series of events during Domestic Violence Awareness Week, which runs from Monday, October 19 to Friday, October 23.

The events include a Silent Witness National Initiative, an Art Wall Display in the Kopp Student Center, a Restorative Yoga session, a speaker from the Tubman Center, a screening and discussion of the documentary Private Violence and Cornerstone staff on site to answer questions or provide resources.

There will be a Restorative Yoga session on Tuesday, October 20 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Kopp Student Center room K 1450. On Wednesday, October 21 from 12 to 1 p.m. in Kopp Student Center K 1450, there will be a representative from the Tubman Center who will discuss Domestic violence and talk about services, resources and recovery.

On Thursday, October 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Kopp Student Center Garden Room, there will be a screening and discussion of the documentary Private Violence. There will also be a candle light vigil for those who have died as a result of domestic violence this past year. Cornerstone staff will also be available to talk individually to answer questions and provide resources.

Throughout the week, there will be an Art Wall display with information, resources, reflection and activities. There will also be a Silent Witness National Initiative with red figures around campus that represent women killed by domestic violence.
