StarID (Computer Login)

StarID is a username that will be used across the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities to access information technology systems and services. As systems are configured to use StarID, the number of usernames and passwords students and employees will need to remember and use will be reduced. StarID will be used to access e-services, D2L, campus computers and Wi-Fi.

GETTING STARTED:  go to https://starid.mnscu.edu  and click "Activate StarID." You can activate your account using your Tech ID (Employee ID) or State Employee Number. Upon activating your StarID, you will set up a password.  Do not share this information with anyone. 

FORGOT STARID/PASSWORD: If you do not remember your StarID or forgot your password, you can use the StarID Self Service page (https://starid.mnscu.edu/) to look it up and reset your password.

Email

Normandale Community College uses Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence. Your email account will have been created along with your StarID. 

ACCESS EMAIL ON CAMPUS: Simply login to your computer and launch Microsoft Outlook from the Windows Start Menu.

ACCESS EMAIL OFF CAMPUS: From the Normandale homepage (www.normandale.edu), click on Faculty/Staff and then select Check your email. This link will direct you to the Outlook Web App.

Phone & Voicemail

GETTING STARTED:   Login to your email account and look for a welcome message from Microsoft Outlook (subject: Welcome to Exchange Unified Messaging). This email will contain:

  • Access number: (952) 358-9150 | Call this number to check voicemail from off campus
  • Phone number: (952) 358-(your number) 
  • PIN: (five-digit code) | Use this PIN to access voicemail from off campus

LOGGING INTO PHONE: Most phones are connected via USB cable to a computer. To login to a phone, first click the menu button on the phone itself and select Switch User (this will logoff the current user). Next, login to the computer and wait for Microsoft Lync to prompt you for a username and password. Enter your StarID and password and the system will log you into the phone.

CHECKING VOICEMAIL:   Voicemail will be delivered into your Microsoft Outlook mailbox. You may listen to the messages via your computer speakers or simply click Play on phone to have the system call your office extension. Alternatively, on the LCD screen of the phone scroll to the voicemail icon and select the message you wish to play.

D2L

This is the Normandale Online Learning System (normandale.ims.mnscu.edu).  To login, use your StarID and password.  To reset your password, please go to the StarID Self Service page (https://starid.mnscu.edu).D2L Orientation Videos as well as other helpful information can be found here:  http://www.normandale.edu/online-education.html

Software

Do you need a specific piece of software? First, check the NCC Application Catalog (shortcut in Windows Start Menu) to see if the software is available for installation. All software listed in the NCC Application Catalog is site licensed and doesn't require approval for installation. If you can't find the software in the NCC Application Catalog, simply contact the IT Help Desk and a representative will work with you to procure and install the requested software.

Printing

To install a network printer on your workstation, simply open the Devices and Printers menu from the Windows Start Menu. Click Add a printer and then Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.  Click The printer that I want isn't listed, and Next. Scroll through the Search results until you find the printer you want. Double-click the printer and follow the on-screen prompts to finish the installation of the printer driver.
