What is the Access Program?
The Access Program is for students registered to receive accommodations through the Office for Students with Disabilities who may require more strategic interventions in order to be academically successful. Students admitted to the program receive individual, goal-directed support, which includes learning strategies in areas of need, such as organization and time management, self-advocacy, coping mechanisms, goal setting and more. The program aims to help students become independent learners who no longer need the support and intervention provided by this program.
- 97% of Normandale Access Students scholars returned to Normandale, graduated or transferred during the 2017-2018 academic year.
- Students in the program have had a 8% jump in GPA & completion
- Fall 2017, 83% of students met a 2.0 semester GPA or higher and a 80% completion rate.
Who is eligible for the Access Program?
Students eligible for the Access Program meet the following criteria:
- Connected with the OSD office
- Willing to participate in individual meetings
- Motivated to be a successful Normandale college student
- Experienced academic difficulties as a high school or college student
- Enrolled as a degree-seeking student
How can students connect with the Access Program?
Application. Students that are interested in the program should fill out an application and turn in to L2751.Interview. Students who are candidates for the program will interview with the Access Coordinator. This allows students to express their interests and ask questions, and it gives the coordinator an opportunity to describe the benefits of the program. Admission decisions involve assessing the applicant's strengths and areas needing further development. Due to limited space in the program, some eligible students may not be accepted.

What are the program expectations?
Students admitted to the Access Program will do the following activities
- Attend weekly or biweekly meetings dependent on individual Access Plan
- Willingness to show/discuss D2L grades
- Willingness to be open and honest conversation regarding classes, and barriers you may be experiencing outside the classroom.
What is not provided through the Access Program?
- Assistance with homework
- Individual prescribed devices
- Personal Care Assistant (PCA)
- Special college classes
- Case manager
- Personal tutoring
- Readers for personal use or study
- Modified curriculum
